We re not on irrigation but we farm over 40 mile stretch. We had pretty bad drought last year but this one section of land kept getting showers every few days whereas alot of our other beans didn't get much in may or June until taps turned on heavy in July and she was pretty much goldilocks for a month. Saved the crop really.

Well then the taps turned off July 28 and the heat started up hard. That section of beans which looked like a 50-60bu crop damn near keeled over and died within 2 weeks because it never sent roots down at all. Old timer who lives in the area said he never saw such bumper crops turn bad so fast.

I'm guessing that is why you want a bit of stress early on so the plant doesn't just get used to being spoon fed and actually works for it.
