| I remember as a kid my dad explaining that all the ditches in the bottoms on our land were dug by hand and most of the dirt roads near our place were constructed by hand as WPA projects. It amazed me that men with only bush axes, shovels, and grubbing hoes accomplished those tasks just to keep their families from starving. My grandmother said her parents had some old family money back then but lost a lot during the crash. My other grandmother was from up north and her father was lucky enough to have&keep a good job, they shared their home with her two uncles and their families that lost everything. | |
