The bigger issue is that we had almost 0 moisture last fall to recharge the subsoil and very little this spring.
Most years we have nearly half of the water we need "in the bank" before the seed gets planted. That isn't so this year.
Don't get me wrong, the crop looks good as of today, but this thing could get ugly fast if we don't get rain soon and this hot windy weather persists. Or we could get all the rain we need right when we need it and raise the granddaddy of all crops. Or probably somewhere in between...
