| Thought I was the last person left still running a green Steiger. I have an '81 Steiger ST 225 Bearcat. It has a 3306 Cat engine with 12k hours on it....very little has been done to the engine. I've overhauled the transmission a couple of times in the last twenty years and always put in a clutch when we have the transmission out. Done some work on the differentials and planetaries....pricey, but cheaper than a new tractor. Drive train should be in pretty good shape now. I suppose I'll keep it until the tires wear out, or the engine blows, or 'til I can no longer find any replacement parts.
I've tried to trade it off a couple of times, but it has minimal trade value, so I keep it. Cheap horsepower. I really rather enjoy driving the old beast. It's comfortable to drive, and seems to keep on running......................showboat | |
