I'm thinking along the same lines as tillage-director here.....

if you have another field available, I'd consider planting alfalfa in a different field.

If you need the feed, consider interseeding something like sudangrass or sorghum-sudangrass this summer to bulk up what in in the field for this year; or kill it and plant short-season corn now.
