Subject: RE: soybeans and nitrogen

Greene County, Illinois
I remember seeing a research study done several years ago (at least twenty) that soybeans responded to nitrogen application, but only at the early pod set stage. They were getting a positive response (around 11%) on a consistent basis. As I remember, they were broadcasting urea over the top of drilled beans. I believe they were trying to apply ahead of a rain to minimize N loss. Don't remember which University did the study, probably Purdue, I don't think U. of Ill. does much that would help farmers actually make money.
