Pittsburg, Kansas | I give a lot of credit to the fact that both my wife and I decided to do this journey together. I think it makes life so much easier and pleasant when a couple are on the same page with their goals, or in this particular case, health goals.
I was never on the same page with her for the several times my wife tried in the past to lose weight, and I am sure that was no help to her at best and negative help at worst.
Three years ago we both just kind of reached a point where we were unhappy with out bodies and what it bode for the future as far as us being able to do what we wanted to in our retirement years. Sadly it looked like a down hill run at the time. It appeared to me I might have only been capable of a few more years scuba diving (already being insulin dependent, it was not a recommended practice even for the years I had been doing it) . We both wanted an active retirement for the present and future and that looked either doubtful or not a very long run ahead at least. We are 68 and now we are looking forward to another ten years of scuba diving, fingers crossed.
We were lucky and started with some on line YouTube doctors and researchers that got us going down a lot better path. Is it a perfect path? Probably not, but multitudes better than the one we were on previously.
I post this picture, getting ready for a night dive with two friends in beautiful Bonaire, N.A., in hopes it is incentive for others that if a person is overweight and discouraged with themselves, positive changes are likely possible. This is me 100 pounds lighter than I was 3 short years ago scuba diving off this very same dock. Just brought our diving log books up to date last night and I have done 117 dives in the last three months, wife about half that many.
