I was given some old Hoard's Dairyman books years ago, was from around the 1940's if I remember right, one was a animal health on the farm booklet.................People might laugh but we had a dog that got ear infections often, drag him to the vet, plunk down $$$ every time for med's for him. In that booklet was a home brew treatment for it. I don't remember the ingredients but we tried it, it worked....................My mother has a St. Bernard now with the same issue, use it on him too, she knows how to make it by memory, only difference is you almost need to put that horse in a squeeze chute to put the drops in his ears.

Reasons like that I find old books interesting.
