I didn’t know thicker seats were available. Last head I had done on a 4630 with new valves only needed .010” off to get to max protrusion.

We are blessed to have a great machine shop 30 minutes away. These boys know their stuff. They also know I want the valves on every green head set as low as possible without shaving anymore off the head than necessary to true it up. So they'll use oversized seats if necessary, and grind them down to get things at minimum spec. Not the cheapest method for sure, but gives you more opportunities in the future to plane your head before you need to toss it. I think the oversized seats were aftermarket, but I'm not certain on that. I do know they never caused me any problems.

Generally older Deere heads don't warp much unless they get overheated a lot. But then again, I know of some fellows that do that and more quite regularly.

LOL.
