Subject: RE: Mixing Fertilizer And Seed Wheat Question

Leesburg, Ohio
I guess I don't get the point of blending seed and fertilizer and running the blend thru a drill...the only time we ever blended fertilizer and seed is to have it spread on with a spinner spreader, and then worked it in with shallow tillage, and eliminate the slower trip with the drill.
If you are going to drill it anyway, why not just spread the fertilizer, and drill the wheat? What's the point?
If the benefit you are hoping for is better fertilizer placement/availability in a no-till seeding application, I think you are splitting hairs. Broadcast fertilizer on the surface is just as good, especially if it applied before drilling, and the drill gets it mixed in a bit.
