South Central MN | This year a bunch who harvested early have a "free" cover crop growing in the field now, amazing how much loss is showing up this year on those fields because almost every seed sprouted and is now growing...
Cover crops are a long term investment, not likely to see much of a return in the short term. (Actually one reason they aren't as common in some areas yet.) If you have a landlord who cares about the long term health of the ground they might be willing do work with you, otherwise like most they are just concerned about how big next years rent check will be.
This year though I have seen a lot of cover crops on the canning crop acres, including some fields I harvested. Good to see those ones probably won't have a bunch of dirt blowing around this winter if they leave them alone. | |
