Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251

Rod@night - 10/13/2021 09:35 Weaned cattle two weeks ago. Feeding creep / grain mix 6#/ day. Half morning /Half evening. Free choice grass hay. They head for the gate when the hear the buckets. Slick bunks. Feel like I have the calves in a good spot. I have plenty to do everyday and I want to pick up my harvest pace. Am I just making work feeding grain 2x per day?

I feed once a day. Grandpa always fed twice a day, but he was dealing with 50 head vs. my 350, and if he could not scratch a dewlap, they were not gentle enough.

I have been known to even overfeed a bit if I need a day off, and if the bunks will hold it.  I know it is not the best, but happy wife = happy life.  I fed first thing Sunday morning, went to church, then headed to the Current river for a overnight float trip.  Then fed Monday night when we got back.  Everything survived.

If I had to feed twice a day, I would have to reorder my life, not enough hours in a day.  I am not a dairy.  I do try and drive by the bunks and pens in the morning in the go-buggy to look things over before I leave for the day to the machinery dealership.
