Valley, NE | we looked really hard at building one before we went with a custom stick frame house, about 5 years ago. basically i had two 40x70 buildings butted together in an L shape. with one being the living side and other being the garage/loft side. I had drawings made and toured a few others, but my banker wouldn't finance the build because it was hard to put a saleable value on it. There are literally no comparables in my area. It turned into a pretty uphill battle with financing so we went more traditional and built a custom home.
like anything, i wish i would have done a ton of different things to this place, as it's our forever home (atleast for now). i would make a mud room with a floor drain separate from the laundry room and even though my garage is 900 square feet, i'd make it wider so the doors dont dink the side walls. I really contemplated floor heat but i was already pushing the boundaries of the budget, now i wish i would have put it in the house and garage. vehicles in the winter time bring a ton of sludge and water and snow in and with the floor heat, the floor would dry by morning.
good luck, theres a ton of videos and tours out there in google land and you are only held back by your imagination for the design, and in my case financing for the build.
