Faunsdale, AL | Do you use a preemerge against Roundup resistant water hemp?
I do. I apply it off the back of the planter. Have done for years. I’ve been using Valor a long time now. A few years ago I had become dissatisfied with the number of escapes I was seeing.
I’m a pretty small time farmer and have been spraying my post emerge chemicals with a very rudimentary 3 point sprayer on the same tractor I use for planting.
I had gotten behind on planting because of weather that year and a neighbor offered to stop by and spend a day planting beans for me with his fancy 40’ wide 20” JD planter. I thought for $20 an acre, what did I have to lose! I turned him loose in some of my biggest fields and he covered a couple hundred acres in short order. I figured I would get done with the rest of the small patches and then get the sprayer on to spray the VALOR, but rain interrupted that and it didn’t get done. Beans came up and so did the water hemp!
The upshot of all this is I found out that the VALOR was providing excellent suppression of the water hemp. Certainly wasn’t perfect, but well worth the cost and time spent doing it!
Vaccination is like preemerge chemicals.....might not be perfect.....won’t be perfect......but it really helps minimize the bad outcomes. | |
