Scranton | I was in Spencer in 93 working for a coop. Lots of corn was planted without N because the windows were so small...it'd rain inches every few days, lots of lighting too, I remember.
There was a field on Hwy 18 east of spencer that I pulled into to dribble Nitrogen on waist high corn. They said it was dry by I went a hundred yards and started spinning so I made a big circle with the hiboy and made it back to the gate, and quit. You could see that circle of green corn all summer. Tons of 0-92 up there disked down. We felt bad sending fertilizer/spray bills out when they had already disked their corn under. Dad had a field of beans that got beat up with rain and hail, then the coop talked him into letting them spray the pursuit with a three wheel floater as they were way behind as well...every 60 feet the four or five rows were almost zero...six inches tall. Whole farm did 13 bpa.
Dad passed in august of 95 from lung cancer. I remember how hot it was then. Brother was losing cattle to the heat. | |
