Hard to believe they said it was OK to shoot it down. In law they are considered an aircraft and deliberately trying to damage it could result in loss of control and injury to a third party - it isn't necessarily going to just fall dead if you only disabled the radio control or any camera attached.

I'm surprised people are quite so paranoid unless they are being repeatedly targeted as a form of harassment.
Battery life is short and realistic range not much over a mile so if one is noticed it will soon depart.
