I've eaten with dirty hands the same way, but there is a risk to it. A local bull dozer operator had sat on the tracks eating his lunch for maybe decades. Then one day he got sick. The Doctor found he had some organism found in soil that made his sick. So be careful. All it takes is one time to pick up some bad bug that may make you sick.
