We rode our motorcycles through some of this road and loved it.  It's a less traveled road and you can pull over in a lot of places and just walk out through the redwoods.  Avenue of the Giants (south of Eureka a little ways) Also, many years ago I visited Muir Woods park just north of SF and it was pretty nice too.
