SC Wisconsin | I've been buying hay when I find it close by for cheap. The way I look at it, I'm buying feed for my cows and fertilizer for the crops. I don't know what fertilizer is going to be like this fall/next spring but I'm sure it won't be much cheaper, so using my logic hay should be quite a bit more.
My game plan is to get a fair amount of hay and other roughage bought in the next month, first crop is usually the cheapest atleast here. I would rather the bales be sitting in my yard when we don't have a 2nd or third crop this year.
Alot of people greatly underestimate their inputs for hay. Be fair with what it costs you to raise it and I'll bet you'll find buying hay iss dang close to breakeven. | |
