53925 | This hits home. One of the toughest things is to see it other ways. I was working myself into bad health and I'll be the first to admit I was burning equity to keep milking cows. Had to do something else. Cows went on trailer kept heifers got into a good off farm job that gives me health insurance and a healthy pay check. Got into steers as heifers left and now transitioning into custom raising dairy heifers and certainly keeping my job. I'm happier have more time for myself and the farm is in the green. Spring and fall can be some long days but the rest of it isn't bad. I look at what some coworkers have and their age and really make me wonder what I've been doing all these years. A guy 4 years younger than me is retiring at 48 and will come back part time. I'm 52 and am digging out of a hole he has a cabin on some acreage a house and vehicles all paid for plus a retirement fund and insurance. | |
