Delmarva | Hello all, I hope this is the right place to post this. My wife, kids, and I are first generation farmers here on the Delmarva Peninsula. We started 7 years ago and are slowly growing. Like alot of you, I watch the various superstars of the farming youtube world. Welker Brothers, Millenial farmer, cole the cornstar, Brians Farming videos , mike mitchell etc.... What I noticed is, there are very few First Generation farmers in this arena. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-QWm7U9SoHjUAkd-BwjVRw So, my wife and I decided to give it a go. I film, she edits. We are having fun, but I would like some real world feedback from other farmers. Good or bad, I want to know what yall think of the episodes. I try to mix it up as much as I can, and things will be more interesting once planting season hits, but we wanted to get our feet wet before we started in the fields. If you dont mind, please let me know what you like or didnt like. Content, editing, music, whatever..... Thank you all Shorebilly Farmer ...out

SE Lancaster co PA | My 14 year old grandson started a channel a year ago. It took a long time to get to 100 subscribers. Around Christmas he jumped to 1000 and now he has 4000. It can go quick. Pennsylvania Farm Kid if you would like to look.

Southern MN | Just keep working at it. Growth will come in spurts. My son has been at it for a short year. Will put out a video that he really likes that struggles, next week one that seems kind of boring takes off. He has been told quantity is better than quality to gain viewers. He has been going at it the opposite way since he is in college full time and struggles to have enough content this time of year, so posts once per week. His quality has increased greatly, as a father it has been enjoyable to see how much better his videos have gotten in such a short time. His channel has also opened a lot of doors for him. He was contacted by a local company to intern with them, which he will be doing this summer. Has one endorsement already, and is working on another one. I also think the channel has been pretty important in a couple of scholarships he received. Keloland news out of Sioux Falls is supposed to have a story on him and another you tuber on the 10 o’clock news tonight. They have already posted the story online so not sure what if anything they will run on the news tonight. Also, as you would expect the videos that seem to take off the fastest either have machinery in them or an accident that happened on the farm, not too surprising I guess. Don’t have much livestock but assume a title with an animal in it will accomplish the same thing.

Part of the reason we started was due to the virus sucking the fun out of everything and wanting to do somthing constructive with ourselves. It would be cool to start to bring other farmers and a glimpse into their operations on the channel. We have a friend whom does firearms training and we "featured" him in one of our videos. You should Def be proud of your son doing this while in college. It take about 5 to 8 hours to edit just 10 to 15 minutes worth of video

Southern MN | Yes he spends a lot of time on it. He does get a monthly check from google, but it is not much per hour with all the time he puts in it plus driving home 5 hours round trip most weekends to shoot more content. But I feel he is learning as much or more than he is in college. Hopefully you and your wife stick with it, hopefully it opens up some doors for you in the future. If nothing else it is a great educational tool for our non ag residents.

SE MN | I enjoy watching working people on youtube. Farmers, machinists, tree arborists, cnc machinery, earthmoving, etc. Some things that seem to help channels be successful: Be positive and wholesome. If your having an ornery day, just don't film that day. It helps a lot if you are friendly, funny, outgoing, and happy. Make lots of videos and be reliable. Once a week is the bare minimum if you want to get sponsors and make it successful. You can have slow times once you are established, but its better to be consistent when growing. You are better making a simple video once a week than slaving over a long, carefully edited video once a month. Letsdig18 basically just mounts a camera over his shoulder and you watch him run an excavator. Others pay outside companies for fancy editing and music, and I don't think it adds much. Clickbait titles work. It is ****ty, but the numbers don't lie. Wranglerstar has a huge channel based almost entirely on clickbait titles. I don't think I've seen that guy do anything that I was impressed by but people watch his videos for the clickbait and think he is some kind of expert. It helps to be on other social media like Instagram posting photos and updates almost daily. If people get invested in your story, they will watch every video and comment and buy merchandise. It can get carried away and you can lose privacy if you aren't careful.

S.E. Sask. | Catchy clickbait thumbnail pics help too I think. How many times have I clicked on a yt video because the thumbnail pic looked interesting. Only to be disappointed by the actual video. But its the click that counts. I think you have to be up to a certain level of subscribers and verified before you can pick your own thumbnail though. Commenting on other 'tubers videos gets your channel more visibility too and can draw viewers in out of curiosity. Plus getting a "shoutout" from another well established youtuber can really draw the traffic.

Kell, IL...not Chicago!!! | Look up how to exploit the youtube algorithms. Won't be helpful to start, but once you have over 1000 subs, it will become useful to know.

I tried a couple click baity kinda of titles, but maybe I need to step that up a bit. I just didnt want the channel to seem to gimmicky. I released a video last night and used a different style of thumb nail than I have been using. We have a Shorebilly Farmer facebook page and instagram, but I am not as active on those as I should be. Thank you for the tips!
