I plug mine in as soon as I park for the evening. I have a 150w oil pan heater and leave it plugged in a few min after starting the car as it all warms up. Been looking into coolant line heaters but hard to justify the price on a 20 year old beater. This is on a VW TDI which has no freeze plugs to install a block heater into.
