Find an agent that you trust and let him/her explain the medicare supplement for part B. Those plans are standardized so they all offer the same coverage. Prices vary a little.
Medicare part D is optional. If you don't start out with part D and add it later, there will be a penalty. Then you may or may not want a part D supplement. Those vary quite a bit depending on which prescriptions you take. A good agent can help you make a decision. I never signed up for part D as the price with the IRMAA was far more than I pay for prescriptions.
If your income is high enough you need to be aware or the IRMAA.
The standard Part B premium amount in 2020 is $144.60. Most people pay the standard Part B premium amount. If your modified adjusted gross income as reported on your IRS tax return from 2 years ago is above a certain amount, you'll pay the standard premium amount and an Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA).
