| What you are seeing on TV isn't really Medicare. Those are Medicare Supplement plans offered by private insurance companies. You have until December 7th (I think) to sign up for one.
Since Medicare doesn't pay for 100% of medical care, Medicare Supplement Policies are almost required.
I pay about $150 per month for a "Type F" policy. Covers everything medical. Then there is a Drug plan that is extra as well. I spend another 10 bucks a month for that. That doesn't cover everything, there is a deductible.
When you are signing up for Medicare, even if you are not taking an prescription drugs, you should sign up for the medicare drug plan. If you don't they will charge you more later.
I use a service called AON to go through all of the medicare supplement plans for me and suggest the proper one, based on medical history and prescription med use.
