Can you expand on this more ? source a link to a safe Linux download ? Any way to run this on my good drive to explore my bad drive or are you saying install the bad drive and try and boot from Linux on a USB stick or CD ?

I tried booting from a Windows 7  ISO burn that I made when I got this computer and did a clean install.

I probably only know enough about all of this to be dangerous
