I would at least try to download linux to a usb, change boot order in BIOS, and see if Linux will boot. My Win7 computer crashed and would not boot, think I would just get a blinking cursor. Linux booted and was able to recover my files. Some files required a little searching to find. Linux has some tools that might help, gparted may give you some information.
