Not likely.

The pump does not stop turning when water stops flowing. Amps actually go down as pressure increases. As long as it is submerged it won't "burn up the motor".

I worked for a pump company once and we checked on a customer complaint about excessive electrical use. Turned out the points had stuck shut and their pump had been running constantly for weeks. Deadheading for hours when no faucets were on.
