I think it has more to do with where you get your gas vs. what's in the gas. Use stations that sell "Top Tier" (industry term?)gas. I think it has something to do with the fuel meeting certain standards to get the top tier rating.
FWIW I use Sta Bil in my gas. Worked well for me for mowers and such when in winter storage. I can vouch that it works too. I forgot to dose the farm lawn mower a few years back. Go to start the following spring, sure enough no go. Drained tank and refilled with fresh gas, fired right up. Only small engine I had to do that with because I dosed the others and they popped right off.
