Northwest Illinois
Typically applying nh3 preplant around end of March here or beginning of April. I might be a little exaggerating when I say as soon as you can row it but seems if I don’t get a jump on it, it’s taller than I like. Usually around June 1 is when most of the side dressing gets done it seems. If it’s done early you can’t tell a tractor was ever out there. I do preplant quite a bit too. Actually my highest yielding stuff is preplant but it’s also my best ground. 90% of my township is preplant. 10% is side dressed down here in bottoms because of sand. I have tests this year on 15 cec. Full preplant vs full side dress. When I say full I mean 150 units via nh3 and the rest with dry preplant and I do apply 15-20 gallons with planter.
