Donnellson, IA. Makes saying here easier.

I have witnessed 320 bu corn with 250lbs nh3 fall applied, p and k build to optimum, planted at 38k, Fungicide and insecticide at Tassel. Field average was 270ish. I have seen field averages of 215-230 with 170lbs up front as nh3 with a 50-0-0-20 at v6 plus p and k for 200 yield goal up front. 34k pop and Fungicide at Tassel. County average is 141.

Not same area totally but very close. Seems here that nh3 has to be part of the equation most years to get the highest yield. I've tried many seasons not using any and even if it's just 60 units it's always my best yields. Bit anyways

I like 50% down fall or spring nh3
40 units with chems and 1.5 gallon ats
Then the balance of your 32% sidedress to equal the total N.....also with ATS to make up about a 8:1 N/S ratio. Unless you use S in your dry blend, then at least a 10:1 to help with stability. Tissue sample ahead of this pass and add goodies according(I like B also as mentioned above). I've seen my highest yields ever with a v8 ydrop sidedress. But didn't have the field split so who knows what another program would have done. As mentioned before the total use of N and S are later. So maybe run a little less down and more post. If using S in the dry instead of liquid I prefer only 5 units in the sulfate form which comes from my micros, but I prefer the rest in elemental to push availability to later. Especially if fall applied. Spring more units of S would help get enough in plant earlier.

Like mentioned also total N is different everywhere. I've have .46 to 1.13 nitrogen efficiency numbers over the years. But I fall most often in the .65-.8 in my acres. So typically use .7 on bean stubble as my number. Each area and environment is different. I struggle to get much of a response above that figure. That said I'm shooting for the moon with 270 units on some of my strip trials outside row, but it's been a good year.....guys in 60" corn raising 200 bushel is 400 a row for yield.

Just try things any keep good notes. Every year is so different.

I'm 90% manure now in strip till so no purchased N....

But if I went back to commercial row crop tomorrow even after my above statement. I'd probably run 2x2x2 with a crazy mix of nutrients, for 60# and post nh3 with a culivator and run boron ATS through the wings of shovels off a front mount tank. This transition stuff has me liking cultivator.
