I haven't been to many bigger cities except Omaha for past few years but I see a lot of Prime vans running around 7 days a week while I'm in Omaha. Last I knew territories were available to buy in rural areas. I think 15-25 vans per territory, kind of like the FedEx model.
Rumor is Amazon really wants to buy the US Postal Service. Lots to read about it searching Google.
