Subject: RE: Drive in theater style Church Service?

With all of the social distancing needing to happen and better weather soon upon us. We had a thought about setting up a drive in style church service. People come and park while the service is played through their car radios. My question is what equipment/ license is required to shoot out a short range FM signal? I know the drive in theater two towns over has a set up, but what about the guys that go overboard on Christmas lights and set them to music played over a car radio? On the FCC website is says a person can put something up as long as it doesn't go over 200ft, which would be plenty for us, but I just don't want to do something ignorant and don't know what equipment would be used to do that. Thank you.

One of my Bible college classmates is now a pastor in Austin, MN. They have been doing this with some modifications. They were planning to use the FM transmitters, but they were having trouble finding them (back ordered). They ended up contacting a local radio station. Because of sports being canceled, they were looking for something to broadcast. They ended up getting a 1 pm time slot so they were were able to broadcast over the whole area instead of just 200 feet. They also contacted a business with one of the largest parking lots in town and got permission to use it. They were planning to use a big screen along with the broadcast, but the wind stopped that. It sounds like things have been working well for them. They talked to the health department and got their okay before going forward.

At our church we have been posting a prerecorded message the last couple of weeks. Since we are a small church, we are planning a Zoom meeting for Palm Sunday. Essentially it is like face time with up to 100 participants. This way we can talk to each other, see each other's faces, and take prayer requests and have some time of fellowship online. Then I will bring the message and after that we can talk again. We plan to skip the congregational singing because with Zoom there is a delay so the singing would end up sounding like a round with an off key delay.
