If you had'nt got those rains, it would likely be the opposite. I'm not a agronomist here so its only an opinion, but that windrow cover shaded the soil holding the moisture and keeping the soil surface temps lower. With water uptake comes nutrient uptake. Most of your nutrients are likely closer to the surface, but the plant cant get to them if there is no moisture there. JMOFWLIAW.
