This current situation should be more about trying to raise a crop and less about trying to line ones pocket by not planting. If it gets to end of ins period and not possible to plant, use the PP option. But to quit before then is not in the best long term interest of agriculture in this country.
Farming is always about trying to raise a crop. This time is no different in that statement. However, we are in uncharted waters here....literally.
We've been told we have a burdensome supply, prices are low, and costs are high. Why try a mud a half-a**ed crop in and risk damaging equipment, especially for very little reward in the end?
This is now all about individual survival.......not what's in the best interest of this country's agriculture.
Perhaps not planting a crop, collecting insurance to farm next year will be hitting the reset button.......and could actually turn out well for the country. This country has been very complacent on our food supply and farmers have been vastly underpaid for the work we provide. This spring weather may be the wake up call the country needs.
