West Texas | 1/4 deep, keep it moist on top until they emerge! Deep till the soil, make a raised bed, finely prepared soil on top then plant. I do 2 rows on a narrow bed (30" rows) or 4 rows on a wide bed (40" rows).
Been raising them all my life, both commercially and in the garden although now just in the garden. And I still mes up. Planted some a few weeks ago and they didn't come up. Well, a few did but not enough to have a good stand. I planted them too deep. I found the seed and found it sprouted but it just could not make it to the top. Replanted them last Saturday.
