| Well, the Pre does have an app store - they are calling it the App Catalog. Google's Android is the only smartphone OS that is currently open source that I know of.

And it is widely known that Palm is on the verge of going under. They have fallen victim to smartphones - which is why they developed the Pre. I have read several sources that say that their development costs were so high for the Pre that it absolutely has to be a raving success for Palm to survive. Read the 3rd paragraph down in the following article:
