I was a "book worm" in grade school and earned the coveted Pupils Reading Circle award every year for 1st through 8th grade. That qualified me to receive the "Life Certificate" from the State of Missouri. That was a big deal to a graduating 8th grader back in the day.
The certificates are getting rather yellow now but still remind me of the pride of achievement all those oral/written book reports brought me. The journey a grade schooler can take from a small Missouri town of 248 people is not limited by geography. Reading is awesome! |
