Not QUITE the same, but we have 2 very good quality pizza stones, I believe they are 5/8" thick, and I use them on our gas grill, heat them up on high, prepare a fast home made crust, roll it out, organize all of the toppings, etc, and carry everything out to the grill.  

At this point the stones are about  500 degrees, and I add a bit of oil, or flour to the stone, then place the dough, and add all toppings...... wait about 5 minutes, and have a very good home made pie.  About 20 -30 minutes start to finish.  

I love making a good pie, and have certainly considered purchasing or buying a wood fired out door oven, but in the mean time, this works pretty darn good.
