Good point if you want a down and dirty elevation map. But in most cases you want more than a pretty picture. I want data that is geo-referenced and can be used in the field. In our case elevation data is extremely useful when you can convert the data into flow paths (natural path where water wants to run), depressions (where water trends to pool). Image 1

When overlaid over a yield map brings the information to the next level . Image 2

Using 3-D models also helps. (Yield Map on top 3-d topo model on bottom) Image 3&4

We can use the data with a laptop or an Ipaq in the field to do surface drainage.
