Dickinson, ND
It's definitely a Jayhawk hay stacker made in Salinas, KS. I grew up stacking hay with them. We had two and used one until 1971. The last one we had was hydraulic. It had a large single-acting cylinder, about 6" in diameter, with a cable sheave on the end. As it moved forward it tightened the cable and raised the 12' hay basket to 21 feet. The one shown wound the cable around the spool shown to raise and lower the basket. You pulled a rope to "trip" or dump the load of hay in the basket. You could make good stacks with them but had to get into the stack occasionally to straighten things out and compact it. It was very stable as the axle was about 10' wide. The only repairs required were a cable once in a while and new "dogs" in the wheels as they were always working while turning.

After pushing one of these for awhile you never had any problem backing up trailers. In order to turn the Jayhawk right, you had to turn left and vice-versa.

I've been collectiong photos of them from the net. Yours are very good. Thanks for posting them.
