I really enjoyed The Worst Hard Time, nonfiction which tells the story of the dust bowl. An amazing true story of some amazingly tough people who endured it.

I read that as well. A humbling read. I have a new respect for those that endured that. I feel extremely spoiled.

I also read a newspaper series written in the early early 1900's about a young teamster running wagon trains of supplies from Malta MT to The miners in Zortman in the 1800's during one of their worst winter storms and blizzards. What normally is a couple days trip took several weeks and how they survived is amazing. He talks about camping in coulees to get of the blistering wind and making a snow plow out of one the wagons. He also talked about seeing a couple cows frozen solid standing up. It was a hard read as it was a multiple copy of a very old newspaper but worth the effort
