True - about any asset we own. But, as far as a "hollow argument" - no, I think we need to assess the risks of holding any asset. To assume that there is no risk in holding gold is sticking our heads in the sand. This is a bit like organized religion - (very big) assumptions are made that make our mental state more comfortable. I see the same mental processes involved in many people who are buying gold.
Germany also continues to take back gold.
