I am no expert on this but I seem to recall 2nd generation treatments as being much more speculative than first. I can't recall the numbers but it took very high levels to justify treatment at that time. Timing was the issue as egg laying and hatch seemed to be much more extended with 2nd gen. Seems like we sometimes saw a third gen, but maybe it was just an extension of no. 2.

What concerns me is the fact that you are still seeing egg masses and have borers in the stalk too. If you are seeing more egg masses than borers, there might be time to do something now although first gen should be over. Someone with more expertise will hopefully chime in here. A consultant maybe money well spent this year. If you do treat 2nd gen I would "buy" as much residual time as you can possibly get.
