as others have said strike out on your own. Rent or buy your own ground. That way over time you will be merging two operations instead of you just joining in your dad's operation.

How does someone, new to farming, buy land at the prices of land today? Then buy equipment, what bank would ever sign off on that? I just dont get the strike out on your own, maybe it is just the area I am in as it is very competitive. I have looked into it myself but the margins just are not there to be a start up in my area. A 300 acre farm was available to rent, I wanted to try it, but the bidding on rent was insane, even my father's bid was short by 70 an acre plus an incentive.

I just dont recommend for him to go out on his own, just help your father and be there for him and be patient.
