Subject: RE: update on tragic hunting accident

New London, Wisconsin
Add me to the list of those people, it wasn't my gun but a friends wifes' gun. Even though it was pointed in a safe direction at the time of the uncontrolled fire it scared the daylights out of her. Then come the inevitable questions of did I or did I not have my finger on the trigger. Remington was made aware of this in the mid 1960's or so, it has been a well documented problem affecting a small percentage of the 700's. The friends gun was given a new Jewel trigger assembly and is now safe, and is a much better gun than original.

I don't own a 700, but if I did, there is no way on earth I would leave it as it came from the factory. If you or those you know have not had this experience, and most have not, it's easy to assume there was no fault of the gun. I'm with Dave on this one, I think it was a sad combination of faults as many of these accidents have been.
