Franklinton, LA
The coastal marshes of south Louisiana have been eroding for decades. Each year a few more square miles of land erodes away. I am part owner of a fishing camp about 20 miles south of Houma, LA. During the past 30 years we have lost well over 100 square miles of land within 10 miles of this camp. I have caught a lot of fish in areas where you could raise cattle and ride a horse 30 years ago. What happens to the organic matter and nutrients when this soil is eroded into the Gulf of Mexico? How much does coastal zone erosion contribute to the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone?
