Take a look at a map of the Louisiana Coast from the mouth of the Mississippi River west to the Texas border. Now look at a satellite photo of this area. The satellite photo will show that a lot of the land shown on the map is now part of the Gulf of Mexico. Also, take a look at satellite or aerial photos from 30 to 50 years back compared to recent photos. Coastal zone erosion is for real. Now, what happens to the organic matter and nutrients in this eroded land?
