Subject: Re: Rolling beans ?

Ontario's West Coast , Huron County
I roll every acre I plant beans on . I am not sure there is any yield bump that can be had with rolling other than being able to cut lower and not having to worry about picking rocks with my combine which seems to get a bad case of indigestion when it does eat one . I will say that rolling does make the planter run smoother if done before you plant , it does help with moisture retention also . I always roll after planting even if a field had been rolled before the planter because the planter does kick up some stones also . Pound them down and set them in the dirt and you will hardly ever pick up a stone when combining . I also use the trip over the field with the roller to pick any rocks/stones that should be taken off the field or that got missed .
I have before and will continue to refuse to combine any beans that have not been rolled . My combine is not a rock picker and was never designed to be one .
