You shouldn't need anything next to the foundation, I would tie the garage to the apron and make the apron 1/2" lower, you don't need 6" for a garage apron, 4 is plenty, you're not taking a combine across it. You should pour it at once, it's a little harder but will be much niceer when finished, put wet joints in.
