I think she applied at the wrong place. Most of the time the sow guys don't get really stinky - at least compared to finishing barns even with good ventilation. Anyway, most of sow guys I'm around would train for a single hit or they have an easy use, take with you shocker (put the piglet in a bucket, hook it up and it's done). If your wife is still considering it, I'd look around more if there are other sow farms in the area - they are always looking for good people.

It's no doubt we've been trained away from common sense with animals, but it need not be a really gory deal either. Besides the idea is to have all of them to go on to be finished pigs - deads at any point in the process don't help that at all.
